Bishop David was born in Dublin and was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, and Royal Belfast Academical Institution. He read Classics at Trinity College, Dublin, and Theology at Oriel College, Oxford. He trained for ministry at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, and was ordained in the Church of Ireland in 1976. As well as parish experience in Belfast and Bangor, he served as Church of Ireland Youth Officer. He was Rector of Seagoe Parish Portadown, Dean of Dromore and Archdeacon of Dromore. Elected Bishop of St Andrews in 2004, he moved to Scotland in 2005 and was elected Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church in 2009. David has been a member of Council since 2006 and also sits on the Committee of Council. David is a regular writer and broadcaster. He is married to Alison and they have three grown-up children.
Derek was educated at Glenalmond (1962-66) and was a boarder in Patchell's House. He read history at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, and law at Edinburgh University. He was called to the Bar in 1974 and took silk in 1987. Derek was appointed to the High Court Bench in 1996, and to the Inner House and Privy Council in 2005. He is married with two daughters and one son, all of whom were educated at Glenalmond. He has been a member of Council since 2004.
Educated at Glenalmond College (1973-78) Harry was a boarder in Matheson's House. He read history at Selwyn College, Cambridge, graduating in 1982. Harry is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and is currently Head of Investment Management at Adam & Company. He has been a Council Member since 2001 and has been Chairman of Committee of Council since mid-2007. Married and with two grown up daughters, the younger of whom is an OG, Harry lives in Edinburgh.
The Earl of Home CVO CBE
David Douglas-Home was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He inherited the title of the Earl of Home in 1995. Lord Home was appointed Chairman of Coutts & Co on 1 June 1999. His directorships include: RBS Coutts Bank Ltd, Grosvenor Group Ltd (Chairman), Grosvenor Estate Holdings, Wheatsheaf Investments Ltd, British Malaysian Society (President), RBS Asset Management Ltd, Ditchley Foundation (Governor), Douglas & Angus Estates, Dubai Financial Services Authority, and the Royal Agricultural Society of England. Lord Home is an active member in the House of Lords. He is married with two daughters and one son. He has been a Member of Council since 1995.
Ian Wilson CBE
Ian spent 37 years as an international officer with Standard Chartered Bank, retiring in 1998, when he was awarded a CBE for services to banking and the community in Hong Kong. During the period 1994 to 1998 he was General Manager responsible for Hong Kong, China, Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. He was General Manager for the regions Middle East and South Asia from 1992 to 1994 and was Chief Executive of the Hong Kong branches 1990 to 1992. Ian is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Bank of Communications, Shanghai China and a member of Court of the University of Abertay, Dundee. Ian joined Council in 1998 and sits on Committee of Council. Ian is married and had two sons at Coll; Ramsay was a pupil in Cairnies House in (1982-87), and Mark also in Cairnies (1984-89).
Andrew Primrose
Andrew was educated at Glenalmond College (1952-57) in Matheson's House. He read Classics at University College, Oxford, graduating in 1961. He qualified as a solicitor in 1964, having gained an LLB at Glasgow University. From 1966 to 2002 he was a partner in the legal firm of Maclay Murray & Spens, specialising in property law and latterly in environmental law. In 1989 he helped to establish the firm's London office and was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1994. Andrew was Chairman of the OG Club from 1997 to 2000 and has been an elected member of Council since 2000. He is Chairman of several Scottish charitable trusts, including The University of Glasgow Trust. Andrew is married, with a son, David (Matheson's House 1978-1983) and a daughter and lives in Bearsden, Glasgow.
David MacRobert
David was educated at Glenalmond College (1967-72) and was a pupil in Goodacre's House. He read law at Dundee University graduating in 1975. He joined the family firm in 1977 becoming a partner in 1980, when he became the fourth generation of lawyers in the family firm. David was Treasurer of the OG Club for over twenty years. Living in Paisley, he is married with a young son who he hopes will be educated at Glenalmond. David has been on Council since 1989 and sits on the Committee of Council.
Alastair Campbell
Alastair was educated at Ampleforth College. He joined the Army and served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders from 1972-1996. On leaving the Army he went briefly into the hotel trade but quickly decided that it was not for him or his young family. He joined the Civil Service and worked for the MOD in Glasgow and Stirling. On the formation of the Royal Regiment of Scotland in March 2006 he became Regimental Secretary of the new enlarged Regiment working in Edinburgh Castle. His step son was in Skrine's 2002-2006 and his son is now in Goodacre's. He has been on Council since 2004 and sits on the Health & Safety Committee. He lives in Stirlingshire with his wife, Rosie, three sons and a host of varied animals.
David Sibbald
David was educated at Glenalmond College (1961-66) a pupil in Skrine's House. He studied Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art/Heriot Watt University graduating in 1973 joining Robert Hurd & Partners in Edinburgh and founding his own Architectural Practice in 1977 in Edinburgh before joining with the London practice of Carl Fisher and Partners 1979. He continues to work in the commercial sector for Private Developers and Public Companies, and was recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. He has been a member of the Council since 2005 and sits on the Committee of Council. He is married with a grown up son, also educated at Glenalmond and lives in Edinburgh.
Graeme Houston
Graeme was educated at Kelvinside Academy Glasgow, and Glenalmond College (1974-79), a pupil in Matheson's House. He read Natural Sciences at Magdalene College, Cambridge and then Medicine at St Thomas's Hospital London, graduating in 1987. Returning to Scotland he pursued medical and then radiology training in Glasgow and Vancouver, Canada, before taking up a consultant radiologist post in Dundee in 1995. He has been committed to developing new patient services as well as research and teaching. He was appointed as Professor of Clinical Imaging, University of Dundee in 2009. Graeme is married with three children. All have been, or are currently at Glenalmond as day or boarding pupils. He has been a member of Council since 2005 and sits on the Health & Safety Committee.
Clare Lorenz
Clare was educated at school in Cambridge after which she trained as an architect at the Architectural Association School in London. She worked in Frankfurt and London before becoming a journalist and writer on architecture, education and business ethics. She started the charity Children of High Intelligence to support the academically very able child and helped initiate the current nationwide Gifted and Talented pupils' scheme in England. She worked for ten years as an Ofsted inspector from a lay background running, or being part of, school inspection teams throughout England. She has been a member of Council since 2007 and sits on the Education Committee. She has two grown up children and lives in Edinburgh.
John Squire
A geology graduate who underwent his secondary education at Charterhouse School, John obtained his Masters degree in Engineering Geology in 1977. He then went on to work for more than 17 years in the upstream oil industry, initially in the engineering services field and then for BP. He obtained an MBA in 1993 and, since 1995, has worked as a Senior Manager in the energy trading and risk management function of Scottish and Southern Energy plc in Perth. John is a director of a number of SSE subsidiary companies, and is authorised as an Approved Person by the FSA (Financial Services Authority) to carry out a number of Controlled Functions associated with his employer's commodity trading activities. He is a Trustee of the Scottish Hydro-Electric Pension Scheme. He joined Council in 2007 and sits on Committee of Council. John's wife, Helen is a Medical Consultant. Their 2 daughters entered Glenalmond College in 2007.The family live in the countryside near Perth.
Claire Walker
Dr Claire Walker was brought up in the Borders and was educated at St Leonards, St Andrews (1970-79). She studied medicine at Newnham College, Cambridge and then at Edinburgh Medical School where she gained her MBChB in 1986. Claire has worked in Edinburgh and the Lothians since qualifying, except for a three year spell in Hong Kong. She has worked in general practice since 1990. Since 2003 Claire has been working part-time in Bonnyrigg, near Edinburgh and as a GP to multiply-handicapped children at the Royal Blind School in Edinburgh. She was on the Princes Trust Action Committee (Lothian and Borders), 1990-93 and 1996-98. She is a Trustee on the Foundation for Skin Research and of the Children's Hospice Association Scotland. Claire has been a member of Council since early 2008 and lives in Gullane.
Right Rev Mark J Strange
Bishop Mark was brought up and educated in Aberdeen; he read Divinity at Aberdeen University before completing his studies at Lincoln Theological College. Bishop Mark served his Title at St Barnabas Church in Worcester before becoming Vicar of St Wulstan's, Worcester. Bishop Mark returned to Scotland and served as Rector of Elgin, Lossiemouth, Aberlour and Dufftown as well as Synod Clerk of Moray. He was elected Bishop of the diocese in 2007 and appointed as a member of Council of Glenalmond College in 2009. Bishop Mark has responsibility for the Youth Programme of the Scottish Episcopal Church and organises the annual summer camps at Glenalmond. Bishop Mark is married to Jane and has three children; Bishops House is on the Black Isle at Arpafeelie.
John Light
Born and brought up in West Yorkshire, John was educated at Sedbergh School and Clare College, Cambridge, where he read German, Russian and French. After six years in commerce, including a year at Manchester Business School, he joined the teaching staff at Glenalmond from 1975-78, and worked in schools in England, before succeeding Ian Templeton as Headmaster of Oswestry School. He then returned to Scotland and was for thirteen years Rector of The Edinburgh Academy, retiring in 2008. Married with four adult children, he is currently Principal of The British School of Amsterdam, but retains his home in Strathearn.
Jennifer Dudgeon
Jennifer was brought up in Glasgow before being educated at St. Leonards School, St Andrews (1975-1980) and she then read Economic History at Aberdeen University, graduating with MA Hons in 1984. She then returned to Glasgow and worked for Scottish Amicable Investment Managers. Jennifer has been a Council member of St. Leonards School and is currently Treasurer of Gullane Ladies Golf Club. She is married to Sandy (Goodacres 1971-1975) and they have two boys; James (Goodacres 2001-2006) and Adam (Goodacres 2004-2009) and a daughter, Emily. She lives in Gullane, East Lothian.
John Thom
John was educated at Glenalmond College (Cairnies 1976-1981). He studied law at Aberdeen University, graduating in 1985, and after training in Edinburgh, returned to Perth where he is now Chairman of his law firm. John specialises in private client work, is a Convenor of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland and a Trustee on various private and charitable trusts. John is married, lives in Perth, with two sons, one of whom is a current pupil at the College.
Jock Miller
J
ock was educated at Harrow School, Scottish Agricultural College and Napier University. He then went on to qualify as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. Having started his career with the Miller Group he set up his own residential development company in 2000. He is married with three children, one of whom is an OG and another is in Home. He lives with his family in Edinburgh.
