New Hymnal

Hymn singing has always formed an integral part of worship at Glenalmond. For generations, the College's magnificent Chapel of the Holy Trinity has resounded to the strong voices of young people, staff, parents and visitors joined in praise. The College worship is wonderfully enhanced through the support of the 2007 Harrison & Harrison organ, its four trumpeting angels surmounting the case and lifting eyes and hearts to heaven.

Michaelmas Term 2009 sees the launch of the new Glenalmond College Hymnal. This hymnal, enabled through the generosity of individual donations, allows the College to take the proud tradition of Chapel singing confidently into the future. The collection includes both favourite classics and contemporary settings of texts modern and ancient, some composed by College Organist Mr Robert Gower at Glenalmond and written with the hope of compelling and engaging young singers to sing 'both with the spirit and with the understanding also.'

Having welcomed Glenalmond's new Director of Music Dr Tim Ridley, College Chaplain the Rev'd Giles Dove blessed the new hymnals at the full College Eucharist on Sunday 6th September 2009. Delighted with the new book, Father Giles said "We rejoice in Glenalmond's heritage of lusty hymn-singing whilst relishing the sensitivity of our choral music as it draws hearts, minds and voices into the nearer presence of God."
