The "Third Form Adventure Training Programme" is designed to give Third Form pupils the opportunity to develop personal life skills, teamwork skills and to experience an introduction to outdoor pursuits. It also prepares pupils for entry into the CCF which takes place at the end of the Third Form summer term.

The programme is delivered primarily through sessions which take place every Wednesday afternoon. The pupils work in small groups and undertake a different activity each week. Pupils are exposed to a wide range of activities; e.g. first aid, life saving in the swimming pool, climbing on our climbing wall, orienteering, litter patrol, conservation, team building tasks, kayaking and camp craft. The pupils have the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned on the two Field Days (one in the Michaelmas Term and the second in the Trinity Term) and the summer camp, which takes place in the last week of the summer term. The camp is run through the CCF and provides a chance for the pupils to immerse themselves in adventurous training away from Coll, undertaking activities such as sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, orienteering and even a two-day unsupported expedition. Past camps have taken place at Cultybraggan, Ballater, and Machrihanish and have been a very rewarding experience for both pupils and staff.
