Lacrosse is the main girls' sport in the Lent term. Junior girls have three sessions of coaching or games each week, as do the Senior girls who choose lacrosse as their major sport. A weekly session of lacrosse takes place in the first term in order to refresh the skills of the Seniors and introduce the game to our Junior girls.
Four junior teams and three senior teams regularly play against St George's School for Girls, Fettes College, Lorretto and St Leonard's. In addition to this they participate in several tournaments both in Scotland and south of the Border.
This summer Glenalmond will be hosting a summer camp on Saturday and Sunday August 28th and 29th.

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS CLOSED TOURNAMENT - THURSDAY 18 MARCH
WINNERS - GLENALMOND 1st XII
To me this is the most important fixture of the term, as it is a tournament for all the Scottish lacrosse-playing schools and by winning it secures us as the top Scottish School Team. We have beaten all the other schools over the term but winning the tournament is the icing on the cake especially after all the problems we have had with the weather.
Results - v St Georges 6-1
v Loretto 5-2
v St Leonards 3-0
v Fettes 3-0
Tournaments are tricky to play as it is really important in a short match to get a good start. The girls played with huge determination and thoroughly deserved their success.
Goal Scorers: Lydia - 5, Katie - 3, Alice - 2, Georgie - 2, Emma - 1, Chelsea - 1.
This was a real team effort - congratulations to all.
1st XII v Fettes 16 March 2010 10 - 4 (W)
Considering all the problems we have had training due to the snow, this was a fantastic performance by the 1st XII. It was definitely worthwhile bussing down to the North Inch last week to train on the grass and on Monday at Methven Football Ground.
The girls played with grit and determination and were like terriers after the ball.
Scorers were Katie - 3, Lydia - 3, Georgie - 2, Mhairi - 2.
We were always in control - the only disappointment being that we did not score first and with the closed tournament on Thursday that is something to think about.

| It was the first game of the season and unfortunately also the first time the girls had stood on a full lacrosse pitch! Completely due to the severe weather preventing play on the Glenalmond pitches this term. However this minor detail did not prevent the girls walking out onto the Loretto pitch with pride and confidence! The first ten minutes of active play caught the girls a little off guard and 3 goals were conceded in this time. After a supportive word at half time, the girls were surprisingly upbeat and determined to get a ball in the net. Rowan Gaskell was an excellent captain and despite a knock to the eye (during the warm up!) led the girls up the field with gritted teeth and drive. The basic skills work in the Gannochy seemed to pay off and the girls were able to put together some impressive bursts of play, including 2 goals. Overall, a very pleasing first appearance for these newbies. Congratulations to Rowan, Sarah and Isobel for their efforts as 'gals of the game'! | |||||||

| With a team of only nine, our first proper match of the Lent term went really well, only losing 8-5 to an assertive Loretto squad of thirteen. By the end of the first half we were down by only 5-3 after a rather sporadic defensive display. Louise Nimmo scored the first goal followed closely by Joanna Rankin who scored three in total. Then, Rosie Douglas scored one for the team. All in all it was a really good match and we all walked away happy with the score, but next time it will be 8-5 to us! | |||||||

| After a long hard but most enjoyable week of lacrosse - the girls were up against Fettes on a very dreary Saturday afternoon. A few key first players were absent with flu and several others were suffering with symptoms and I much appreciated them playing - thank you especially Georgie and Mairi. Going was very tricky underfoot and picking up very difficult and we were soon 2 goals down to a very determined Fettes side - we rallied and were up 3-2 at half time. We took a better lead early in the second half but they got back to within a goal of us before Georgie scored a great goal to give us a 2 goal cushion before the final whistle. Great play by Alice, Rachel, Ellie and Lydia. Goals scored by Alice, Katie, Georgie, Mairi(2), Lydia(3). Certainly not our best performance but a victory when the chips were down. Lots to work on especially moving the ball quickly through midfield. | |||||||

| It was wonderful to see so many old faces again for the OG match on Sunday. The old girls were Alice and Cat Nicol, Chloe Lallyett, Alex Bevens, Alice Hamilton, Lyndsey Brunton, Hannah Preston and Kirsty Maclean. They were joined in goal by Jenny Anderton our 2nds goalie and we played a 9 a side game. Even though our current girls were tired after a hard weeks lacrosse - it was a great game and a wonderful demonstration of fast moving lacrosse which all thoroughly enjoyed and the old girls won 10-8 in a tight game. The inaugural game was a great success and hopefully can now become an annual event. Many thanks to Cat Nicol for organising the OG side and to Jill Gillespie for coming along to help on the day.It was really wonderful for me to see so many old girls still enjoying the game. | |||||||
Small Schools Tournament
Sunday 31 January
This the 6th year in succession that we have won this title - and the girls really excelled themselves.
It was a round robin tournament and we scored a total of 28 points (out of 30) - the next placed school scored 17.
Results
v St Leonards 4-0 (W)
v Sedbergh 2-2 (D)
v Ampleforth 3-0 (W)
v Fettes 5-3 (W)
v Barnard Castle 9-0 (W)
v Casterton 4-1 (W)
In the morning the pitches were absolutely frozen solid and play was very difficult. The girls performed well against St Leonards and then had a hiccough against Sedbergh as they did not play a safe game the conditions dictated. However all was not lost and they went from strength to strength as the pitch conditions improved allowing better stickwork.
Top scorers on the day:
Georgie 9
Mairi 6
Rose 5
Lydia 4
Alice 3
but congratulations to the entire squad as it was a true team effort - Lydia Proctor (GK) Sheila, Ellie, Rachel, Mairi, Chelsea, Rose, Nessie, Alice, Olivia, Georgie, Lydia, Emma, Katie, Annabel.
v St George's 10-4 (W)
30 January
It was great to be able to have a game against St George's on the way down to the North Small School Tournament and although the pitches were solid they were very playable and it was the first outing for the squad and a great practice run for us.
Lydia again scored 7 of the 10 goals - other goals by Olivia, Nessie and Annabel. Mairi was again superb in defense - but it was a team effort ad all are to be congratulated.
Many thanks to the Edinburgh supporters.
v St Leonard's 10-8 (W)
21 January
We travelled to a snow-free St Andrews and saw grass for the first time this term - their pitch was in superb condition.
Many of the first squad were sitting exams only seven 1st squad players being available and so we took some promising players from the seconds.
Considering it was our first outing on the grass and the team were not used to playing together at all - we performed very well.
Lydia lead from the front and scored 6 of the goals and Ellie and Mairi were both superb in defense. Congratulations to Camilla and Hattie for great play - both are pushing for places in the first squad.
