There are eight Polo players in Coll at present, and their leader Tristan Doumen began organising them into a team at the end of the Lent Term. Tristan is from Chantilly, north of Paris, and has played in the French under 21 team. We attended a series of training sessions at Thom Bell's Polo Centre near Kinross, and arranged matches against Edinburgh Schools and the University of St Andrews, but these were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
What did go ahead was the Inaugural OG Match. This was held at Scone Racecourse on Tuesday 16th June. The OG team was: Nick Walters, Charlie Swanson, George Gemmell and Charlotte Bushby. Tristan and Grania Lambert played all four chukkas for Coll, and David Dalrymple, James Risk, Rebecca Marlow, Sam Smith-Maxwell and Mac Sinclair-Parry played one or two Chukkas each. Charlotte Marlow unfortunately missed out due to an exam the next day. The final score was 11:7 to the OG's in what proved to be an exciting start to Coll Polo. Our thanks go to Thom Bell for all his hard work, and to James Crawford for some excellent umpiring. In 2010 we will do more training, look to organise more competitions, and attend the Inter-Schools Polo Competition next summer.
