Skrine's 1984-1989
I can still remember the excitement of driving down Front Avenue for the first time and witnessing the magnificent spectacle of the College buildings in their rural setting. It made me feel immensely proud. I felt I was joining something unique.
Glenalmond was fun! I enjoyed the fact that I could be involved with so many varied activities, from rugby or ice climbing in the Sma Glen, to sailing in Loch Freuchie.
I think we all need to gather life experiences in a reasonably safe way and for me Glenalmond offered that chance. It was a school full of adventure and opportunity, where leadership was nurtured and recognised. It also helped me build personal contacts for life.
I was allowed a degree of freedom to express myself and develop hobbies and interest that could later be of use to me both socially and professionally. When I left, I not only felt self-confident, but excited about what I was going to achieve in life.
Glenalmond prepared me exceptionally well both for my first career as a British Army Officer with the Black Watch Regiment and latterly for starting and running my own successful retail business, Demijohn. Glenalmond is a school that encourages the belief that anything is possible, with hard work and a little daring-do!
