Patchell's 1994-1999
I started at Glenalmond in 1993, arriving after six years at Ardvreck. Being 13, I had no part in the decision, but it's one that I'm glad my parents made!
I was in Patchell's under the leadership of Charlie Shiffner and he was without doubt one of the greatest house masters there have been at Coll. I have great memories of my time in Patchell's and of 'Shiffy', the camaraderie within the house and the friendships that were made.
The opportunities we were given both athletically and academically definitely gave us great platforms to be successful in the future and I have good memories of many of my teachers.
But ultimately what I got most out of Glenalmond was the friendships and independence that you gain. I was much better prepared for university than most people I met there and I think we learnt that being away from home was an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and be better prepared for whatever life throws at us!
Jonathan became Scotland's most be-medalled athlete at a single Commonwealth Games in Delhi with two golds - in the 50metres rifle prone men and in the pairs event with Neil Stirton - one silver and one bronze medal. He was also chosen to lead the Scottish team at the closing ceremony.
