Skrine's 2007-2009
I travelled to Glenalmond from my home in the Chinese province of Inner Mongolia seeking to broaden both my educational and cultural horizons. I joined Glenalmond in the VIth form to study A levels in the hope of winning a place at either Oxford or Cambridge.
I enjoyed my time at Glenalmond and achieved A grades in History, Politics, Economics, Maths and Further Maths. I am now studying History and Politics at University College, Oxford.
Glenalmond provided me with the environment I needed to concentrate on my studies. The location meant there was peace and quiet when I needed it and the teachers made me fall in love with my subjects. They helped me learn how to construct well thought-out arguments and be disciplined in my study and they gave me great support during the application process for Oxford.
My first few weeks as a boarder were a bit of a shock because it was the first time I had been away from my parents but it was great preparation for living away at university.
Also, my English wasn't that good when I arrived, however I was encouraged to socialise and that helped me a huge amount. I also joined the Chapel choir and learnt how beautiful singing can be, something that has helped me at Oxford where I have also joined the choir.
