Climbing

Climbing takes place throughout the year at Glenalmond and is a great sport that every pupil can enjoy whatever their ability.

There are many venues at our disposal from the outdoor college climbing wall, local crags like Benny Beg at Crieff or Craigie Barns in Dunkeld, to the indoor walls in Dundee and Edinburgh.

Late in the Michaelmas or early in the Lent terms we run ice climbing on local waterfalls close to the college providing a) the right conditions exist and b) we can get there!

Climbing activities are run throughout the year as part of the College games programme on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Junior boys and girls have the opportunity to participate on Tuesday afternoons as part of their rolling outdoor activities programme. This involves hill-walking on the peaks around the College or rock climbing on the local crags, the College climbing wall or the indoor climbing centre, "A Vertical World", in Dundee.

For those pupils who wish to pursue the sport of rock climbing further, there is also the option of joining a more advanced group on Thursday afternoons. Here the emphasis is on teaching pupils the skills required to continue climbing safely on leaving the College.
