Take a look at the blog from the Argentina Rugby Tour:  Argentina Tour 2011

Rugby at Glenalmond is at the core of the Michaelmas term for the boys. The spirit and manner in which pupils at 'Coll' approach rugby is central to all that is good about 'Coll'. Glenalmond prides itself on the ethos and conduct of its rugby teams, an often forgotten aspect of the modern rugby world. In an era of 'Professionalism', 'rugby academies' and 'winning at all costs' we pride ourselves on providing an outstanding rugby upbringing within the framework of a balanced, all round education.

We play regular block fixtures during the Michaelmas Term against most of the major independent rugby playing schools in Scotland. Opponents include Edinburgh Academy, Merchiston Castle School and Fettes, whilst we also enjoy a healthy rivalry in our local derby game with Strathallan. In the Lent term we continue our rugby development programme through concentrating on an individual skills programme and strength and conditioning.

There is a real sense of occasion at home 1st XV matches which only acts to increase the desire and commitment of junior players who strive to achieve a place in the team. Running up the steps on to Neishes though the Pipes and Drums to a fantastic welcome from an expectant crowd is the dream of many pupils. We are very privileged to be one of the best supported schoolboy teams in Scotland and are hugely fortunate to play in such a stunning part of the world. There aren't many 1stXV pitches in the UK with such a breathtaking backdrop!

The rugby future at 'Coll' is certainly a bright and exciting one. We have a team of experienced and enthusiastic coaches who provide a real pathway through to the senior squads and we currently possess some exciting young talent within the college which bodes well for the next few years. We have recently undertaken a major tour to Argentina and are currently planning our next trip and to improve our Strength and Conditioning suite. We are also looking at developing our links with Edinburgh rugby and Perthshire RFC.

Player development and a balanced all round rugby education is at the forefront of our approach to rugby. It is obvious that rugby is special to many pupils at Glenalmond. It regularly brings the best out of them and builds on the pride and spirit that undoubtedly exists within the College. It is hoped that, in changing times, this special aspect of life at 'Coll' will never be eroded.
