We believe in the value of sport for both a healthy lifestyle and for teaching leadership and team building skills.

As can be seen from the wide choice of games on the left side of the page, sporting activity is an integral part of life at Glenalmond, where excellent facilities and a passionate team of coaches come together to encourage pupils to reach their sporting potential.

We take great pride in Glenalmond's long tradition of sporting excellence. Our teams have won many a trophy, while several OGs (former pupils) have gone on to gain national and international honours. Furthermore, many current pupils represent Scotland and their home countries across a variety of sporting platforms.

We are fortunate in being one of the very few independent schools in the UK to have its own golf course. The course, designed by former Open champion James Braid, has nine holes with two different tees on each hole. It is the course on which Carly Booth (Lothian, 2008-2010) further developed the talents that helped her turn professional and join the Ladies European Tour.

We also have a heated indoor swimming pool where expert coaching is provided by former Olympic coach Gary Vandermeulen through the Sheppard Swim School which he jointly runs with his wife Alison Sheppard MBE, Scotland's most successful female swimmer. Gary and his team coach both our competitive teams and those pupils who just want to improve their general swimming ability.

Other sports facilities at Glenalmond include an indoor sports hall, a brand new fitness suite, all-weather pitches for hockey and tennis, as well as rugby, cricket and football pitches galore. Plus, of course, acres of grounds for those much-loved long cross country runs! There are also regular sports trips abroad, including ski camps.

With a team of exceptional head coaches developing the quality of an enthusiastic coaching staff, we encourage our pupils to reach their potential at whatever level of sport they play.

For those pupils who are particularly gifted in one or more sports we also run the  Talented Athlete Development programme which gives them access to advice from elite professional sportsmen and women and helps them to manage and balance the demands of their busy academic and sporting life.

Rugby (boys) and hockey (girls) are the major sports played in the Michaelmas Term and boys' hockey and lacrosse and netball for girls dominate the Lent Term programme. In the summer there is an extensive cricket programme for boys whilst the girls focus on tennis and rounders. A wide variety of other sports are offered at both representative and recreational level.
