Recently the athlete development group attended a lecture on the subject of nutrition. Amy Roberts, a sports nutritionist from London, came up for the day to answer our queries. Her presentation covered a range of topics that mostly revolved around how we could get the best out of what we have on offer in the school dining room. Amy went through a basic balanced diet but then made it relevant for sports men and women. She explained the necessary food and drinks that we should be taking before, during and after exercise - focussing on protein, carbohydrate and re hydration.
After the talk, there was the opportunity for some questions which covered many aspects of sports nutrition. Of particular interest was the much debated topic of supplements. It was a very attention-grabbing lecture and it gave us an insight into fuelling the body correctly when exercising regularly.
