Art and Design Creative Textiles

Inset Course for Glasgow City Council

Last summer, while teaching a Creative Textile course at Twist Fibre Studios in Newport, Pauline Hann, Acting Head of Art and Design discovered that Lesley Dunlop, the Creative Development Link Officer for Glasgow Council was one of the course participants.

She asked Pauline if she would be interested in running some CPD for Art Teachers in Glasgow. Initially, Pauline undertook a three day residency on Machine Embroidery at Lochend High School in Easterhouse, just before Christmas.

Pauline helped Highers pupils to develop their ideas and samples from their Design Development work. "The pupils were very enthusiastic and gained a great deal from this workshop," said Pauline. On Saturday 13th March Pauline returned to Lochend to present a workshop for Art and Design Teachers. "It was very gratifying to see how the pupils had gone on to finish their Design Unit, using the skills they had acquired. I am very grateful to Lesley and Siobhan Mc Mahon, the Principal Teacher of Art at Lochend for their help in setting up these workshops."

"The Art and Design Teachers also worked very enthusiastically on Saturday" said Pauline, "learning about free machine embroidery and the use of water-soluble fabric. Art and Design is a constantly evolving discipline and it is good for Art and Design Teachers to share good practice and acquire new skills and knowledge. Even after 37 years teaching, I still attend courses and workshops, in fact I have four booked over the next few months!"
