The Mission
The introductory brief for the students was as follows: A pupil, who recently joined the College, under an assumed name is, in fact, a member of the Yemeni Royal Family. Through mobile phone intercepts, MI6 has become aware that Al'quaeda knows this and intends to assassinate the pupil and punish the school by poisoning the water source. The poison is biological and very toxic, but only limited quantities of the antidote exists. If these fall into the hands of the enemy, whose agents are known to be in this country, the plot will succeed. The poison is due to be administered remotely from a concealed vial on Thursday 17 June 2010. The chief scientist of the only laboratory with the antidote is in hiding somewhere in the Scottish Highlands. He is in fear for his life after a plot to kill him and steal the antidote, even though he was in MI6 custody, only narrowly failed. Very few people know where he is and he has made it very difficult to find him. Only his most trusted allies can lead you to him.
Your Mission: You are to trace the missing scientist and obtain the antidote. You must then put it in the College's water tanks and so stop this dastardly plot. To prove you can be trusted with the very limited quantities of antidote and to test your capacity for innovation and creative thinking, you will first be tested in Glasgow. If you fail to complete the task given to you, you will not uncover the identity of the agent who can guide you to the scientist in hiding. The students meet in Glasgow, in George Square, on 15 June at 1000. They are to complete two Command Tasks in different venues with ART 6, an orienteering exercise in Kelvingrove Park, and a treasure trail. Successful completion of these tasks will give them a piece of a map and, on the back, a bit of a picture of the 'agent'. By joining the crosses on the map they will find where they are to meet their agent. S(h)e will give them tickets to get to Crianlarich. The timetable for all Glasgow events are attached – each group will be given a strip with where they are to be and when on the Tuesday. They can use the Underground but it will not be funded. At Crianlarich the students will find a bus. To get on the bus they must first wire a plug, courtesy ART 6. The first 4 - 5 groups to successfully complete this get places on the bus. The bus will take them to the Monument above the Lix Toll Garage – not actually in Killin. The groups not getting on the bus must somehow bribe/blackmail/entice the driver to make two journeys. This will be interesting …. At the Monument ART 6 return the packs taken from the groups and send then towards a bivvi venue. At some stage ART6 will give them a ration pack – hitherto the only food they will have eaten will be from an enhanced docket – and they will also be given their accommodation. The Groups will walk to a location in the woods above Loch Tay where they must hide for the night. They will be directed, at around 0600, to go to the fort for further instruction. (The fort is an obvious feature on the map they have). From there half will go to the Loch Side by Firbush activity centre, and the other half will walk to different locations en-route to Ardeonaig slipway. The distance will be such that the walkers arrive after the kayakers at this slipway (inference: at Firbush they are given sitontops to paddle up the Loch). The first kayakers then complete another Norwegian orienteering exercise, much as the first Walkers have just done, and this leads them to Bin Laden's cave. The Groups kayaking second arrive at Ardtalnaig, as per instructions, and are then directed to Bin Laden's cave too. At this venue, a container set in the hillside, they meet the Scientist who gives them the antidote, the instruction as to where they are to hide for the night, and the hope for more food from another friendly agent. They hide up for a second night in some woods. They will also be given an aerial photo of where the water tanks are. The next morning they are given the location of where they are to meet yet another agent, and told to get going. They may well be hungry. Down the glen they are met by an agent who warns of enemy activity which should force a redirection. The Groups need to go to the phone box in Amulree and check people are still alive at Glenalmond. They will also be given the grid for the water tanks.En route they will be intercepted by enemy agents who will try and extract from them the antidote. These same agents will guard the way to the tanks later in the day so forcing some initiative on the hoof. With luck the students will deliver the antidote to the header tanks and the mission will be accomplished. They walk back to school for tea and medals, and blister treatment. | |
