A leading boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 12-18 in Perthshire, Scotland
I was drawn to Scotland through my love of climbing and mountaineering. I came to Glenalmond in September 1998 initially as a teacher of Mathematics, then Head of Mathematics. My wife, Liz, our three young children, and I moved into Reid's in September 2007.
We love being part of Reid's, a House with a strong and unique identity. Reid's is very much a community within a community and, with its own dining room, has a sociable, vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
Reid's House spirit is always evident in the vast array of activities in which our boys take part. We have very talented sportsmen in Reid's and have shared many triumphs so far this academic year on the rugby field, the cross-country course, the ski slopes and in the swimming pool.
As Housemaster of Reid's, I feel it is important not only to be there to support the boys in their many endeavours but to also take part in some myself alongside the boys. As a keen runner, skier and mountaineer, I take part each year in the Islands Peaks Race (this year we entered a Reid's team), the Reid's Cup Run and the Steeplechase. I regularly organise and lead trips away including our House ski trip and a winter mountaineering/snow holing expedition.
Reid's House enjoys a high profile within the Glenalmond community and Reid's boys are frequently nominated as Captains of College.
As a family man, I am proud to say that Reid's has a true family atmosphere. This year my wife Liz also took part in the steeplechase, our son Tom regularly accompanies the Reid's House swim team to their early morning training sessions and our daughter Louisa enjoys entertaining the boys at roll call and serenading them on the piano in the dining hall at supper!
It is within this atmosphere that our boys are supported and encouraged to participate in the fantastic opportunities Glenalmond has to offer, wherever their interests and talents may lie.
