John Stainer's "Crucifixion"
A slightly smaller than usual audience in Chapel was treated to an excellent performance by the Glenalmond College Choral Society last Sunday, March 18th.
John Dexter, Oxford contemporary of Robert Gower, Coll's Director of Music and the day's organist, conducted, having rehearsed the choir and soloists earlier in the day. He drew some outstanding performances from all the singers, and notable was the quality of the solo singers.
As the choir joined "The Agony" the hairs stood up on the back of my neck and I had to gulp as the tenors and basses came in with perfect balance with the higher register singers. A performance to remember for a long time!
