Cricket

Big Cricket provides the stunning location for 1st XI cricket. The ground overlooks the main College buildings below the beautiful backdrop of the Perthshire hills.

Regular block fixtures involving six, sometimes seven, teams are played on Saturday afternoons and occasionally on weekdays and Sundays with Fettes, Loretto, Stewart's-Melville, Dollar, Strathallan, George Watson's, Merchiston Castle and Gordonstoun being are regular opponents. In recent years the U15 squads have really excelled in the Twenty/20 version of the game, winning both the Tayside & Fife competition and Scottish Schools' tournament.

A senior development squad has regularly toured the North of England at the end of June each year and the U15 XI annually participates in a festival with King's Bruton and Nottingham High School. Since 2003 the College 1st XI has toured Trinidad and Tobago, Sri Lanka (soon after the Tsunami), India, Dubai and Antigua.

However, cricket is not confined to the Trinity Term. Our best U15 and prospective 1st XI players are able to attend sessions twice a week between November and March. These cricketers have also benefited from their involvement in the Perth & Kinross Indoor Cricket League which heightens their game awareness. During the Lent term U14 cricketers receive a foundation to cricket skills in their PE lessons as squads are developed for the forthcoming season.

The College has provided a significant number of cricketers at represent ative levels from Perth & Kinross to Tayside & Fife with some advancing to Scotland U15 and U17 age group squads.
