A warm welcome to new Skrine’s House. Wanda, Harry and I are delighted to have the extended family that we do and have thoroughly enjoyed the term so far. The year started off with all things new: a new £3.7 million house, new blood into the house, a new look with our tutor team. Hello and welcome to Alasdair Purdie (Assistant Housemaster), John Wright with 19 years of wisdom as Housemaster of Matheson’s and Mike Alnutt has returned to the house as tutor for 2nd form.
The new house marks a bright new future for Skrine’s, our new motto Saltus Reges – Monarchs of the Glen - encompasses the strong ethos we will build together as the year moves on.
The opening was a memorable occasion and the boys were excellent hosts to our many guests.
House Music proved Skrine’s artistic strength once again as we jazzed our way to victory in the Ensemble competition. Well done to Tony Dent, Julian Findlay, Arden Rees, Josh Haylock, Tim Weber, Alex Barker and Callum McCarter.
There were some proud and promising moments at House Rugby and our football players have begun to show strong and developing teamwork.
Debating has proven to be another great strength in the house. Julian Findlay and Matthias Mueller have skillfully argued their way to the Senior Final. Our junior team , Chris Hastings, Sandy McCleery and Luke Doyle are trying to match that achievement in the Junior Semi final.
We are very proud of our 4 Oxbridge candidates; Tont Dent, Julian Findlay, Matthias Mueller and Callum McCarter. They are being called for interview as we speak and we wish them all well.
Michelmas term commenced with an extravaganza celebrating Halloween and its meaning and customs from around the world. After festivities for all in the House the 2nd form went on to party and, scared out of their wits, were pounced upon by Mr Purdie and his good lady Judy as witch and werewolf. All in all, a great night was had by all.

Saturday’s socials are always fun. This year the juniors have been tripping the light fantastic learning some Salsa moves with 3rd from girls from Home. Last week our own Scott McAlister was awarded “Best Show Off” at the Junior Ceilidh. At both events all our junior boys made some huge leaps in their confidence as dancers. Being able to lead in such gatherings is always a good life skill!
