Glenalmond Pupils and Visitors in Fine Voice this Weekend
On Sunday 15 October, around 170 prep school singers joined together with the Glenalmond Chapel Choir for our annual Glenalmond Choral Day.
Visitors this year came from Ardvreck, Belhaven Hill, Craigclowan, Cargilfield and Mowden Hall. In addition to three choral rehearsals, our visitors were treated to entertaining activities provided by Glenalmond staff - ranging from pan pipe and balloon rocket car manufacturing, to rapping in French, and Spanish cookery, with many other cultural and intellectual stops in between!
The final Choral Day Service of Evening Prayer in Chapel was magnificent. Traditional Scottish and Irish melodies balanced hypnotically with an African American Spiritual, while the final William Mathias anthem was a tribute to the late Princess of Wales on the 20th Anniversary of her death - the anthem was originally composed for her 1981 marriage to Prince Charles in St Paul's Cathedral, London.
Very many thanks to all who came to sing and to support, and in particular to our Chapel Choir who were not only resident in Chapel for the best part of 8 hours, but gave up further spare time to act as guides and mentors for our visiting pupils in the gaps between rehearsals.
