Glenalmond pupil wins overall Premier Prize at Perform in Perth

Glenalmond musicians have had magnificent success in the recent Perform in Perth Music Festival with an overall win and an impressive line-up of six out of the seven finalists. The Premier Prize was awarded to Alexander W (piano) by adjudicator Liz Childs for his superb performance of Beethoven’s Andante Favori.

The final was held on Saturday 18 March and the large number of entries from Glenalmond is a remarkable achievement given that the competition is open to all, with no age or geographical limitation.

Conrad, Alexander W, Angus, Alex M and Ellie (twice) were all invited to compete in the Premier Prize Competition to find the outstanding instrumentalist of the entire festival. 

Special Festival Awards:

Premier Prize – overall outstanding instrumentalist – Alexander W

  • McFatridge Rose Bowl – highest mark in Advanced and Open Piano Classes – Alexander W
  • Stewart Trophy – highest mark in Advanced and Open Brass Classes – Angus G
  • Stirling Medal – highest mark in Advanced and Open String Classes – Conrad I

 

  •  Conrad I won the Open Violin and Open String Recital Classes
  • Alexander W won the Open Piano (Cairncross Trophy) and Open Organ (Bennett Trophy) Classes
  • Angus G won the Open Trombone and Open Brass Recital Classes
  • Alex C won the Open Euphonium Class
  • Ellie R won the Open Descant Recorder, Open Treble Recorder and Advanced Jazz Piano (Elena Cobb Award) Classes
  • Alex M won the Open Oboe and Girls Aged 16-17 Solo Vocal Classes (Dow Medal)
  • Charlie B won the Advanced Trumpet Class

Dr Ridley, Director of Music at Glenalmond said: “Very many congratulations to Alexander and to all our musicians on all of their successes over the past two weeks. This is a fantastic achievement for them and the school and we are all very, very proud.”
