Having recently beaten Strathallan to win the regional T20 Finals our U15s headed to the picturesque Doo'Cot Park to challenge the National title.
Having lost out to GWC last year in a close final, the team were determined to regain the trophy that has proudly sat in the trophy cabinet for three out of the previous four years. First up in the semi final was Merchiston Castle School. Having won the toss and put Merchiston in to bat, the boys set about tearing in to their top order. Three early wickets certainly put us in control before Merchiston staged a comeback with some strong middle order hitting. This was however short lived as we regained control and bowled beautifully in the last six offers to bowl Merchiston out of 83. After a quick fire start we were always on top and cruised to a six wicket victory in the 13th over.
This set us up for our fifth consecutive final, this time against Arbroath HS who had beaten Hutcheson’s grammar. Once again we elected to bowl first and although Arbroath had two very strong opening batsman, we took control from the outset and restricted them to 71 all out. After a solid opening partnership and some clean hitting towards the end we recorded a seven wicket victory in the 9th over.
‘The boys were fantastic! It was a genuine team effort throughout – the bowlers were spot on and well supported by everyone in the field and the batsman were calm and sensible in both chases. The team have worked very hard over the last few months and have made huge progress. The skipper drew high praise from Cricket Scotland and the umpires for the manner in which he and the team conducted themselves during the day and this speaks volumes for the characters involved!’
