Glenalmond boys retain Hockey Trophy
For the second year running Coll won The Reserve Cup at Peffermill beating Strathallan (4-3) and Dunfermline Carnegie (4-2). In the final Gareth Davies scored from a short corner in the first half-term and Fergus McCoss notched a second after a fine counter-attack led by Adam Dudgeon in the second half. A great team effort as the last time the boys had played together was exactly 4 weeks ago at the end of the Bath Festival.
Glenalmond won the trophy in 2007 by beating The Grange 2-1.

Alexander Barker - Scottish Ski Champion
Congratulations to Alexander Barker (Skrine’s) who at only 13, became Scottish Champion at Ben Nevis recently. He won the Scottish U16 Giant Slalom and came second in the Scottish U16 Slalom.

Lacrosse UK Small Schools’ Champions
The 1st XII won the Small Schools' final at Cirencester on Saturday beating Fettes in the semi-final and Loretto in a very close and tightly fought final, winning 3-1.

Cross Country Trophy returns to Coll
The Over 17 Boys fought against foul weather and tough competition to triumph in the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championship on 12th March. This is ninth time Glenalmond have won this title, more than any other school in the competition's thirty year history, and is the fifth time the trophy has returned to Glenalmond in the last seven years.
The team of four boys - Fergus Macaulay-Robertson, Blair Gordon, Adam Dudgeon and Stuart Bailey - displayed great spirit and determination to overcome both the weather and the opposition, with all four of them finishing in the top thirty runners home.
|
| |
Success for Cross Country Teams
Glenalmond had success at the Fettes Relays (Tuesday 4th March) on a cold, but bright, afternoon in Edinburgh. The Over-17 and Under-15 boys both managed close second places in fiercely contested races. The Under-17 boys went one better, winning their race by a considerable margin, with Gareth Davies picking up a prize for running the fastest lap in his category. The Under-17 girls came in third in their race against some extremely tough competition.

| |
Lacrosse Successes
The Under 14 A Glenalmond team won for the second year the Scottish Schools U14 Lacrosse Tournament held at Glenalmond. They won six matches and drew one to retain the trophy.
At Loretto the Glenalmond A squad finished in second place in the Scottish Schools U15 Tournament. Despite a strong day overall with victories in 5 out of 6 matches, a first match loss to Loretto cost Glenalmond the cup.

U15A’s lacrosse vs. Loretto
After a slow warm up we were nervous as we took to the field. We were quick to get the first goal which set us on a positive note. Loretto, however, were determined and quickly got a goal in too. The first half continued with alternating goals until we got ahead to make the score 4-3 at half time.
Another inspiring team talk made us determined to improve the score and widen the gap. This we duly did scoring another 5 goals when Loretto only scored another 1. Most of our goals were scored out of the determination of single players and fast breaks. The final score 9-4 was a major improvement on our last match against them.
For future matches however, we need to ensure that our passing does not lower itself to the level of the opposition as we played a stronger match against Fettes than we played against Loretto.
Man of the match was Hattie Mellor due to her fast breaks and excellent goals. Well played everyone.

Hockey Success
The U16 girls hockey squad played the final of the Midland's School's Cup against Morrison's last week and we were all delighted to win the impressive shield for the second year running. The final score was 5 - 1 and it was a hard fought battle, especially in the first half. The game was rather muddled and we could not keep posession as well as we should have done, but we managed to go ahead 2-0 before half time. The second half was much better and we dominated the game, ending with an impressive final score.
Particular mention should go to Rachel Clark, the Captain, who played very well both in attack and defence. Chelsea Frew was also an invaluable defender. Catie Greener made a couple of very good saves in goal and Emily Townsend came up from defence to take a corner and scored a great goal.
A very pleasing result from a very keen team of players. They now go on to the next round against other Scottish School winning finalists. |

Winning streak for the Lacrosse team.
Coach's report: click here
The Glenalmond 1stXII team were joint winners with Loretto of the Northern Small Schools’ Lacrosse Tournament which was held at Casterton on February 3rd .
During the weekend the team played no less than 7 matches in all starting off with an away game against St George’s on Saturday before immediately travelling on to the tournament. With only two goals conceded and 56 scored over the whole weekend they richly deserve their place in the National Small Schools’ final on March 16th in Bristol.
Although no final was played at Casterton the Glenalmond team went on to beat the joint winners by 19 goals to 2 on the following Tuesday.

Scottish Schools Cup Girls' Hockey
Glenalmond girls shook off the holidays and the winter weather in preparation for two different Cup Finals. The Under 18 girls fought their way to the Scottish Schools Final versus Dollar Academy and were narrowly defeated 2-3.
Likewise the Under 16 team have achieved the same feat, and await confirmation of a date for their Cup Final. At a time of year when they are usually turning to Lacrosse and Netball, they are also training hard for their upcoming tour of South Africa. They hope for better climes there!
