Cairnies

Cairnies House

Cairnies House is positioned on the south side of the College campus and accommodates all Fifth Form girls. The pupils from Lothian and Home move in together for this one year which allows them to mature as individuals, gives them space to showcase their talents and also to focus on their first exam year.

Cairnies House is situated across the road from the main school, a short walk from the golf course and surrounded by trees, gardens and the Cairnies pitches. We are so lucky to be able to return each evening to our comfortable, bright and spacious home. The girls live in flats, in single or twin rooms with each flat having a “brew room”, where the girls can make snacks, socialise in small groups or work on the computer. The main common room is without doubt the centre of the House and is perfect for the girls to mix together, watch a movie, cook or even have a yoga session.

Mrs Andrea Goodall is the Housemistress of Cairnies and is supported by her husband Andrew. They have 2 sons, James and William, who are both pupils themselves at Glenalmond.

Andrea trained as a Registered General Nurse in the Army Medical Services and subsequently served in the UK and overseas. After 13 years in the army, she moved to the NHS, trained as a Paediatric Nurse and completed a first degree in Health Studies. Andrea then worked at Bangor University as a Lecturer Practitioner in Child Health before relocating to Kelly College in Tavistock, where she worked as the School Nurse and taught PSHE. She then moved to Stonyhurst College in Lancashire to take up her first post as a Housemistress.

Having worked in a number of boarding schools, Andrea feels very privileged to be a Housemistress and to be able to support, nurture, encourage and guide the pupils in her care. She has recently studied for a Master’s Degree in Education and works as a tutor for the Boarding Schools Association.

When not at school, Andrea and her family enjoy ski-ing, walking and paddling about on lakes and rivers.
