Glenalmond College has a specialist team of teachers who help guide pupils who are applying to Oxford or Cambridge universities, and those applying for highly competitive courses in medicine, law and veterinary science.
Each of these pupils is assigned a mentor who will support and encourage the pupil and make sure they fully understand the process. The mentor will help the pupil to choose the right course, and where appropriate the right college, and can help arrange visits to the colleges. They also make sure that the pupils focus on the specific skills that these universities are looking for.
Mentors and pupils meet at least once a week for regular discussions to ensure that puplis are developing all aspects of their application, not merely relying on strong examination results.
Two rounds of interview practice are arranged in the Lent and Trinity Terms. Applicants are assessed and feedback is given.
The mentor will set an additional work programme beyond what is being studied in A Level courses. This may include extra reading, academic presentations and additional interview practice.
The Oxbridge programme at Glenalmond is run by Mrs Jenny Davey, Head of Modern Languages, who can provide more information to current Glenalmond parents and pupils: firstname.lastname@example.org
