Skiing is an increasingly popular sport at Glenalmond with many pupils, and their parents, participating either for the pure enjoyment of the slopes or for more competitive reasons.
These are optional ski days open to all (including snowboarders) with instruction available for beginners and intermediates.
Glenalmond has an excellent reputation for ski racing. We enter both boys and girls teams annually for the Scottish Schools Ski Championship at The Lecht and have had great success. We have also sent a girls' team to Flaine in France for the British Schools Championships. The boys' team has competed at Meringen in Germany at the British Boys Championships. We also hold inter-house ski races when possible, either in the X-Scape indoor slope in Glasgow, or at Glenshee.
The College Cadet Force also enters two teams of four for the annual CCF/ATC/TA Ski Championships, held at Aviemore in February. There is also the opportunity for individuals in the CCF to enter the snowboard section as individuals rather than a team.
The opportunity is there for those who wish to enter the Scottish Mogul Skiing Championships, held in March at the Lecht. Training is available at Glenshee, snow permitting.
A stock of cross-country ski equipment has been bought and can be used when we have sufficient snow.
