The Old Glenalmond Golf Society recently won the 2017 Annual Seniors Wayfarers event at Western Gailes.
Recently, the Old Glenalmond Golf Society (OGGS) team of Rod Mitchell (1975-80, Goodacre's), David Sanderson (1973-78, Matheson's), Niall Booker (1971-75, Patchell's), John Gordon (C) (1968-73, Skrine's), Jamie Mackie (1971-76, Skrine's) & Jim Patrick (1971-75, Reid's) played in the Senior Wayfarers Annual event at a challengingly windy Western Gailes course in Ayrshire.
The team overcame a nail biting semi-final with Edinburgh Accies and then a tough final round against the long time holders of the cup, Merchiston, to win the event overall.
It is unknown when the Old Glenalmond side last won the event, but it is not recalled by the current team so this was a monumental occassion. Conveniently, Merchiston forgot to bring the cup to the event (!) and so the OG team have yet to hold their trophy aloft and enjoy the moment - but we are sure they will let us know when the cup is handed over to its new owners!
The SW Over 50's competition was first started in 1971 for the Hugh Price Cup - (presented by Puggy Price) and won by OGGS in 71, 73, 74, 75 and was last won by the OGGS in 1975, 42 years' ago (losing finalists in 82,85,98,06,08).
