Update on the First Impressions Count assesments
Well, I can report that there was certainly a buzz after our first foray into the First Impressions Count assessment. Just like the Eurovision Song Contest, tutors emailed in the results for their houses. Shortly afterwards, as pupils settled down to work on their EPQs and academic presentations, there was much comment on lexical nuances and whether or not you could attribute your one error to the fact that your tutor was French and you had a sudden difficulty understanding her hitherto non-existent accent at a crucial moment in the test. Mr Smith and I quickly received emails seeking to resolve a tricky workplace dilemma, some of which were certainly inventive... Lower Sixth Formers are now all engaged in having mock interviews to test their technique: body language, eye contact and ability to justify their arguments. We think that it has definitely been worth doing and are looking forward to the next phase – the academic presentation!
