Perform in Perth Success

Glenalmond's musicians took up residence in Perth for large parts of the past two weeks, competing in many different classes at the annual Perform in Perth music festival.

42 individual entries ranging from singing to oboe, trumpet to composition and organ to string quartet were submitted, with many other instruments also represented.  Of those 42 entries, we were thrilled to secure 24 First Places and 12 Second Places - additionally, almost all the Second Places actually came second to a Glenalmond winner!  This gave our musicians an 86% 1st or 2nd place success rating.

Over the course of the Festival, Glenalmond musicians brought home 13 Trophies and Special Awards.  Three of our junior musicians made it through to the Larg Trophy competition on the final Saturday night.  This is for winners of Advanced instrumental classes (Grade 6/7).  Jason C (oboe), Ben B (clarinet) and Meredith K (violin) were superb ambassadors for Glenalmond, giving confidence to our musical future, with Meredith taking home the Larg Trophy at the end of the night.

Three of our senior musicians also won places in the finals of the Premier Prize - the competition for winners of Open instrumental classes (Grade 8+) - Alexander W (piano), Conrad I (violin) and Ellie R (two entries, playing both descant and treble recorders).  In the end, Ellie's treble recorder prowess saw her being awarded the Premier Prize, along with a further trophy for being given the highest woodwind mark during the course of the Festival.

In addition to various trophies awarded to various Glenalmond class winners, Alexander W was awarded a rose bowl for securing the highest mark in all piano competitions, Conrad I a gold medal for the highest string mark and Niall D two trophies for being the most promising singer at both Under 18 and Open level.

Glenalmond music has never been stronger.  Although we will be sad to lose our four outstanding Upper Sixth music scholars at the end of the current academic year, it is really encouraging to have seen those further down the school already starting to set the bar good and high.  Our heartiest congratulations to all who gave their time and talent to compete in Perth.
