On Wednesday afternoon, we welcomed Alex Reid, the National Coordinator for YPI Scotland, as we held the finals of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI).
Our Third Form pupils have worked in small teams to research and discuss the social needs of their local community and identify a local charity they believe is best placed to make a positive contribution. They have visited and built relations with representatives from their chosen charity and worked together to create a presentation about their charity and the reasons it is deserving of their support. During this process, the pupils have developed teamwork, communication and presentation skills as well as an awareness of the needs of their local community.
The panel of judges consisted of Sarah Sinclair, Stephen Kinge and Andrea Goodall. The pupils presented their cases with passion and enthusiasm, using drama, music and humour to convey their messages. With some excellent presentations, it was very difficult for the judges to choose a winner however after much deliberation, the £3000 prize money was awarded to the group judged to have presented the most knowledgeable, impassioned and discerning case for their chosen charity, which is Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.
Well done to Niall, Freya, Joe and Millie, who were absolutely delighted to have won the money for their chosen charity and even more excited about contacting SCAA to let them know.
