Glenalmond College has announced that Niall Booker will continue for a second, three-year term as Chairman of its Governing Council.
Two new members of the Council have also been announced, with the appointment of David Fox-Pitt MBE and Christopher Reynolds.
Niall Booker is a former pupil of Glenalmond College who went on to study at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge. He spent 31 years working for the HSBC group in many parts of the world and was appointed Chief Executive of their North American operations and a member of the Group Management board.
Mr Booker was Chief Executive of The Cooperative Bank from the time of the discovery of its capital shortfall in mid-2013 until the end of 2016. He is currently a non-executive director of Non Standard Finance PLC, where he chairs the Audit Committee. He is also Chairman of Monument Corporation.
Mr Booker, whose children attended Glenlamond, has been a member of the College Council since 2012 and has served as Chairman since 2017.
David Fox-Pitt MBE has recently been appointed as a new member of the College Council. Mr Fox-Pitt runs WildFox Events Ltd which organises charity fundraising adventure challenges as well as bespoke activity breaks and motivational courses for corporates and youth groups.
He is an experienced public speaker who talks regularly to schools and businesses. He is passionate about inspiring young people and his book “Positiverosity, 7 Golden Principles” encourages can-do and generosity. He has set up a campaign called “WildTime Offline” to promote time away from digital in outdoor space.
He is a member of a cross-party think-tank “Inspiring Scotland” which aims to get early years children into the outdoors. He set up a charity to give young adults workplace skills, supporting initiatives such as Aberfeldy Workshop, an apprenticeship scheme which teaches woodwork, metalwork, and laser cutting and a coffee academy teaching barista skills.
Mr Fox-Pitt’s MBE was awarded for services to the adventure challenge industry and to charity and his most recent endeavour saw him complete a charity cycle from Land’s End to John o’ Groats on a Penny Farthing, covering up to 95 miles a day and raising over £25,000 for Mary’s Meals. Mr Fox-Pitt, who has two children at Glenlamond, is also Chair of the Friends of Glenalmond (FOG) Events Committee.
Christopher Reynolds is an experienced leader with senior roles in major programmes of national and international significance. He was educated at Cranleigh and Magdalene College, Cambridge and after 19 years of service in the British Army, Mr Reynolds joined Gemini Consulting in 2000 before going on to co-found Genecoe Consulting in 2005. Mr Reynolds, whose children attended Glenlamond, joined CH2M Hill (now Jacobs) in 2017 and continues to work in the Major Programmes Group.
At the end of last year, Glenalmond welcomed a very positive report from Education Scotland inspectors following their visit. Among the highlights of the education which Glenalmond provides, the inspectors praised Glenalmond for successfully combining excellent academic results with a clear commitment to maximising the individual potential of young people.
Warden Hugh Ouston, Head of Glenalmond, welcomed the announcements.
“We are very pleased to welcome David Fox-Pitt and Christopher Reynolds who will both bring a huge amount of experience and expertise to our Governing Council.
“I am also delighted that Niall Booker has confirmed he will continue as our Chairman for a second term. As well as immense knowledge and experience, Niall has enormous enthusiasm for Glenalmond College and all that sets our exceptional school apart.
“We are fortunate to benefit from the personal support and involvement of an exceptional group of Governors, whose role is vital to the continued success of Glenalmond and to ensuring the College continues to grow and flourish, in the exciting years ahead.”
