Music Scholar set to read Mathematics at Cambridge University.
We are delighted to announce that Music Scholar, Alex W (Patchell's), has been offered an Organ Scholarship and a place to read Mathematics, at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge. The offer is conditional on Alex's A Level results in August 2019 and STEP.
Talking about receiving his offer, Alex said, "I am really happy to have received an offer and I really look forward to being an Organ Scholar at Cambridge. During the trials, I had four organ playing auditions, one conducting audition and two maths interviews at various Colleges around Cambridge."
We are delighted with Alex's achievement and look forward to continuing his preparation for the Cambridge STEP examinations. These are difficult papers but we know Alex will rise to the challenge!
Glenalmond's Director of Music, Dr Tim Ridley said of Alex, "Alexander has excelled in his organ studies, even though he has only been learning the instrument since he came to Glenalmond four years ago. The conditional offer of the St Catharine's College, Cambridge organ scholarship is well deserved - Alexander has put a good deal of work and thought into improving himself as a musician. His choral conducting skills have shown particular development, as evidenced with his excellent handling of the full choral and orchestral resources of Handel's Zadok the Priest at last year's Perth Gala Concert. Cambridge will be lucky to have him."
