Glenalmond has enjoyed a double success in a prestigious competition run by The Queen’s College, Oxford University and this week our pupils were delighted to receive their award certificates. James SF (French) and Ellie A (Spanish) emerged as the top entries from Scotland in the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators.
Congratulations to former pupil Jamie Arnaud (Reid's, 2012-17) who has just been announced as joint winner of the Historical Geography Research Group Undergraduate Dissertation Prize, run by the Royal Geographical Society. Jamie recently graduated from University of Cambridge with First Class Honours with Distinction (double-starred first).
As we approach Half Term, we know that many parents will be keen to have the latest information on travel restrictions. While we continue to await specific guidance from the Scottish Government relating to the travel and return of pupils from overseas to boarding schools in Scotland, the general arrangements are looking positive from October 4.
We are looking forward to a jam-packed weekend full of activities this weekend, including our traditional Sunday Funday. Our weekend will include a range of activities, all encouraging pupils to get into the house spirit, and will end with a BBQ supper on Sunday evening. Day pupils have been invited to stay overnight on Saturday to get involved in all the fun.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is an extra-curricular activity offered at Glenalmond which encourages pupils to go the extra mile. We are delighted that DofE at Glenalmond will now be run by Dr Sean Wilkinson, our Head of Chemistry.
It is fabulous to see our Art staff in their Scottish best for their weekly Tartan Thursday, in celebration of Coll’s Scottish heritage.
Our catering team put on a lovely welcome back lunch menu for pupils today, including fish and chips! Today’s menu features fish and chips, macaroni and cheese, and pea risotto.
Our friendly minibus drivers are delighted to be getting out on the road again this week. This includes David Millar who shares why he loves his job in a short interview now on our YouTube channel.
We are delighted to announce that Glenalmond has pride of place as one of Talk Education’s Top 250 Prep and Senior Schools in the UK. The list – identifying Glenalmond in the top ranks of independent schools in the UK – has just been unveiled after months of deliberation.
Congratulations to George Fleming, former pupil (2007-2012) and a founder of Save Our Scene UK, who was an award winner at the Association of Independent Music Awards last week.
Thank you to Mrs Alderson who has brought a beautiful arrangement of sunflowers into our lovely Chapel. How wonderful to have this beautiful welcome back for everyone to enjoy this week.
It was wonderful to welcome former member of staff, David Willington, back to Coll. Mr Willington worked at Glenalmond from April 1973 to July 2006 – 100 terms!
Our physio care will now be provided by Angus Physiotherapy, run by Ruth Madill. A new system for referrals to physiotherapy has also been put in place.
Our senior rugby squad has enjoyed an excellent pre-season training weekend at Durham School, including a combined training session with our hosts on Monday.
Good luck from all at Glenalmond to Abigail S in our Sixth Form and her cousin Merryn who are this weekend raising money for the International Rescue Committee.
We were delighted to welcome the Apex Rugby Academy team to our beautiful school to launch the dates for the October Rugby Camp being held at Glenalmond.
Scottish Rugby’s Super6 league kicked off its new season last weekend with two former Glenalmond pupils - Kaleem Barreto and George Breese - selected in The Offside Line team of the week.
A huge well done to former pupil Oliver Tulloch (Reid’s, 2004-2009), pictured with teammate Jon Pybus, who were the fastest male team in the Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon.
We are delighted to congratulate former Glenalmond pupil, Lord Sinclair, for being appointed as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright.
