Boarding Houses

The boarding houses, for both boarders and day pupils, are at the centre of a pupil’s life at Glenalmond. It is here where they learn to be part of this outstanding community.  

The House becomes home during term time and pupils remain members of the same House for the duration of their time at Glenalmond.

There are three boys' houses and two girls' houses at Glenalmond - Patchell's, Skrine's and Reid's for our boys and Lothian and Home for our girls.

The boarding houses form the focus of the social lives of the pupils, inspiring a sense of identity and loyalty that will stay with them throughout their lives. When former pupils (OGs) meet, they always ask each other which houses they were in!

If your child is sociable, they will probably form friendships to last a lifetime.

The boarding houses have a range of facilities including lounges, kitchens, games rooms and prep rooms with WIFI throughout. The Housemaster and Housemistress live in the boarding house with their own family, creating that family atmosphere which is so important, particularly to boarders.  The houses have their own individual feel where pupils develop their independence whilst being supported by fellow pupils and experienced pastoral staff.

We strive to ensure each House has pupils with a mix of interests, nationalities and personalities so each young person builds an understanding of the diverse modern world.

When prospective pupils and parents come to visit the school, we can arrange for them to visit some of the boarding houses and meet the Housestaff and pupils.
