Pupils Around the World Join Glenalmond Celebration

Pupils and former pupils from around the world joined Glenalmond College’s Virtual Commemoration Day on Friday (June 26th) to mark the end of an exceptional year at the Perthshire school.

The online event included a Chapel Service and addresses by  Dr Michael Alderson, Head of Glenalmond College, Chairman, Mr Niall Booker, and the Captains of College, Susie Anderton and Tom Murray-Usher.

The event was rounded off with a live online broadcast of one of the school’s of Upper Sixth Leavers, Ramsay Pagett from Crieff, who piped an atmospheric "Highland Cathedral" in the school’s stunning Front Quad and through the Front Arch before the doors were poignantly closed in the traditional ending to the “Commem” proceedings.

BBC MasterChef 2020 finalist and former Glenalmond pupil, Claire Fyfe, also supported the pupils and their families by sharing her memories of Commem days she attended as a pupil. She also posted her top tips for picnic food for families to share to celebrate the end of an exceptional academic year.

“Our thanks go to all those who have worked hard over the past year, and in particular recent months, to ensure all our pupils benefitted from a very high standard of teaching,” said Dr Alderson.

“Our very best wishes go to our final year leavers as they embark on a new chapter in life, with the benefit of a Glenalmond education, our shared values and friendships which will last a lifetime.”

Glenalmond’s Virtual Commem event, which has already been viewed more than 6000 times via social media, followed a series of successful virtual events run by the school, which welcomes boarders and day pupils aged 12 - 18 years old.

These included three Virtual Open Days, attracting around 150 families, a Virtual Parents’ Meeting with a record attendance, and a Virtual Taster Day enjoyed by 30 junior school children.

The school has also developed a Virtual Visit experience which is allowing families from all over the world to enjoy a stroll through its stunning 300 acres of grounds in rural Perthshire and chat in real time - from the comfort of their own homes - with members of staff.
