Two pupils have joined the College this term from St John’s College in Harare, Zimbabwe, strengthening Glenalmond’s long-standing international links.
Joshua and Karl both perform as part of their school’s Lower Sixth World Champion pipe band. They are now looking ahead to rehearsing with the Glenalmond College Pipe Band and to becoming involved in the wider co-curricular programme.
The connection between the two schools has its roots in the early 1990s, when St John’s College visited Glenalmond on a rugby tour. Inspired by what they experienced, they returned to Harare and established their own pipe band. That programme has since grown significantly and now includes more than 120 pipers and drummers. Last year, the band achieved international recognition, securing the Novice Juvenile title at the World Pipe Band Championships.
This exchange reflects Glenalmond’s enduring commitment to internationalism, with a well-established programme of partnerships and pupil exchanges that broaden horizons and foster global understanding.
