Over the break, a group of sixteen pupils travelled to Saas-Fee, Switzerland, for a ski trip, making the most of outstanding conditions on the mountains.

Following a smooth journey via Milan, the group arrived in the Alpine resort to fresh snowfall of 35cm overnight, setting the tone for what would be a superb week of skiing. Conditions were a mix of blue skies, sunshine, and colder, wintry moments higher on the glacier.

Pupils skied in three ability groups, all of which made progress over the course of the trip. Much of the skiing took place between 2,500m and 3,800m, allowing pupils to experience the dramatic high-alpine environment, including travel on the world’s highest funicular railway and views of the Dom, the highest mountain lying entirely within Switzerland.

Evenings provided a varied programme, including team challenges, bowling in Saas-Fee, and time spent exploring the village. Pupils also experienced aspects of traditional Swiss life, including a walk through Saas-Grund and a visit to a local bouldering wall set within a converted barn.

Overall, pupils gained confidence, developing their skills and fully embracing the opportunities on offer. Experiences such as these continue to play an important role in enriching life at Glenalmond, both during term time and beyond.
